Holly, Kaitaia (2020)
Holly is about to complete her third year of a Bachelor of Nursing at Northtec. Holly’s application showed a deep affinity with our Soroptimist aim of being the ‘best for women’, and her strong desire to be a positive role model for her daughter, and all girls and women in her community, showing them how hard work and determination can make dreams a reality.
Holly has raised four ‘happy and healthy’ children, actively involved in sports, rugby and dancing. Holly and her family are active volunteers in their local church, school and sports groups.
Janice, Hokitika (2020)
Janice is studying towards a Bachelor of teaching and learning at the University of Christchurch, after which she plans to gain her teacher’s registration. She also hopes to complete further post-graduate papers in special education. Janice is also a heavily involved in her local community, volunteering with the local cubs, and helping with the SPCA. She is also the South Island coordinator for May Hounds, a greyhound rehoming group, and so far she has found new homes for over 17 retired racing greyhounds.
Charlene, Hamilton, (2019)
Charlene is about to enter her third year of her Bachelor of Nursing at Waikato Institute of Technology and is looking forward to working as a nurse in her local community. Charlene delayed her studies for several years to focus on raising “four amazing children” who are active volunteers in their community and sharing their enjoyment of exercise, healthy eating and wellbeing with their friends.
Annie, Hamilton, (2019)
Annie is studying for a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in psychology, at Massey University. After graduation she plans to complete a teaching diploma, and hopes to become a social sciences teacher. She has overcome many challenges to finally commence her dream of gaining a degree, and paid tribute to the loving support of her husband and children in supporting her to embark on this academic journey.
Naada is currently studying for a Masters of Psychology at Massey University by distant learning. The BLSS Trustees were very impressed with Naada’s life journey and her very considered approach to her studies. Naada was presented with her scholarship certificate by SI Palmerston North.
